More and more each day, we are gripped with the importance of raising up the next generation of worshipers to be equipped, empowered and inspired by the truth of God's love. Last weekend we had our GIRLS CONFERENCE which welcomed young women all over the Portland area to set aside some essential time to discover their identity in Christ. God was present, and He was doing some reviving work in the hearts of our future world changers.
Our young people are faced with an overwhelming world where eyes are easily adjusted to its darkness. In a day where media and technology make the options of sin more accessible and acceptable than ever, we must be charged all the more with the duty and passion of speaking truth and life into their lives — which often comes to our youth in the form of music.
"Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts." Psalm 145: 3-4
"Command and teach these things. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity...devote yourself to the public reading of scripture, to preaching and to teaching." 1 Timothy 4:11-13
When our younger generation sees God's faithfulness in generations before them, when they feel empowered and supported by generations before them, when they see genuine worship in the generations before them, we are guiding them successfully in the way of the Lord. Though culture evolves and music styles change, the word of God remains the same and it remains true. Whether an old hymn or a modern chorus that lasts as long as the current style of cuffed jeans, when God's word is spoken, it does not return void.
GIRLS CONFERENCE was an essential event to the lives of these young women. Through their passionate worship and their attentiveness to the messages, one could almost feel them soaking up the nourishing, healing words and presence of God. We want to see them thrive as worshipers of the most high God — both in their daily lives and as a community. Until Christ returns, we must continue to invest in the young hearts that will continue to carry His name.

We were so grateful to have Tiffany Thurston return to Beaverton Foursquare to lead the worship! |
