My blog post this month has a little different focus … since a number of you reading this are friends who have connected with us through the Beaverton Foursquare church family, I thought I’d share a personal update from my family. Sorry for the redundancy if you’ve already heard the news.
My wife Kim, our 3 kids, and I have been in a long and deliberate decision-making process about an invitation we received to serve a 6-month term next year in Beijing, China. Pastor Randy and our church leadership have invested a great deal of time praying through this decision with us, and he recently announced to our staff that the Mills family will be moving to China from February 1-August 1, 2016.
We plan to stay in contact with you from Beijing as much as possible, and we have created an email mailing list you can subscribe to if you’d like to pray with us while we are there (we are not asking for financial support). We will also have some limits on what we share publicly online for 2 reasons: (1) Many American internet and social media channels are not available in China, and (2) we want to be careful to protect our Chinese friends and the groups they lead. There are some restrictions on how foreigners should communicate from China, so we will use direct email only to share stories about what is happening in different aspects of our family life.
I could never have imagined 5 months ago that I would be writing these words. This truly has been an unprecedented journey for our family and our church as we have come to discern and agree on God’s direction for us. God has opened doors for Kim, me, and each of the kids to use the unique gifts and callings on our lives in China. It’s a bit of a long story, but if you want to read the journey that has led us to this point, drop me an email (address below) and I’ll send it to you.
We will share more soon … for now, here’s a link with info on how to stay in touch with us next year, and we would be grateful if you would commit to pray with us that God will do many great things in Beijing in 2016.
我们爱你 (We love you)-
Brent, Kim, Ali, Olivia, and Jake Mills
This was a feeble attempt at a selfie from the top of the Great Wall of China, but if you want to visit Beijing next year, we’ll have a couch available! |
